Artist's Comments

This is the best photograph I have ever taken. A fish market in Chinatown, New York City. Not even cropped; zero photoshop work besides border/resize. I think what makes the composition work so well is the red on the left, and the way it reflects off the fish's belly.

One more thing: the mouth of this fish reminds me of the mouth of the gollum/smeagol character in The Two Towers

Because this world has enough drama,

Oh my god... This...so beautiful...so sad...so lovely...so...argh... No favourites? I'd favourite this a million times over if I could...or...something like that...this image is more then enough to make me want to watch you because... well, this touches me... so much.

I was going to comment on the unique sadness/strangely beautiful quality of the image, but the last line of your description thew me off. The mouth is so uncannily like Gollum's I wonder if they actually did use a fish to model it. How appropriate for the little slinker.

It's that sad moment you realize there is no life left for the fish.

yeah very sad and also very well done, that last comment made me laugh though

man what a great picture!! when i saw the thumbnail i thought was a toe, but cooler now! love all the grittiness on the glass...
:iconopioid:
What a cool idea for a photo. The grain isn't blatant enough to ruin the "integrity" of the image. Indeed it does remind me of Smeagle. Nicely done.

It's a very sad thing to lose such a beautiful creature, in such a seemingly lonely place. I know how long it takes for a guy like this to grow, and to see that journey end is very moving.

woaw !

that's... so strong...
i'd never thought that a dead fish could be so expressive... really
