This is the best photograph I have ever taken. A fish market in Chinatown, New York City. Not even cropped; zero photoshop work besides border/resize. I think what makes the composition work so well is the red on the left, and the way it reflects off the fish's belly.
One more thing: the mouth of this fish reminds me of the mouth of the gollum/smeagol character in The Two Towers
Oh my god... This...so beautiful...so sad...so lovely...so...argh... No favourites? I'd favourite this a million times over if I could...or...something like that...this image is more then enough to make me want to watch you because... well, this touches me... so much.
I was going to comment on the unique sadness/strangely beautiful quality of the image, but the last line of your description thew me off. The mouth is so uncannily like Gollum's I wonder if they actually did use a fish to model it. How appropriate for the little slinker.
It's a very sad thing to lose such a beautiful creature, in such a seemingly lonely place. I know how long it takes for a guy like this to grow, and to see that journey end is very moving.
